FAQ

About the kits

What is The Numbered Canvas?

The Numbered Canvas offers thoughtfully designed paint-by-numbers kits created for slow, mindful creativity. Each piece is curated to feel painterly and balanced, allowing you to enjoy the process of painting as much as the finished artwork.

What comes with each kit?

Each kit includes a pre-numbered cotton–linen blend canvas, a complete set of numbered acrylic paints matched to the artwork, three paint brushes selected for comfort and control, an A3 black-and-white printed reference with numbers, and a colored reference image with a simple painting guide.

What's the canvas made of?

The canvas is a cotton-linen blend canvas, selected for durability, smooth paint application, and long-term stability.

Is the artwork exclusive?

Yes. All curated artwork is created by our founder exclusively for The Numbered Canvas and is not sold elsewhere.

How do I choose the number of colors?

The number of colors refers to the size of the paint palette included in the kit. It affects color variation and nuance, rather than how difficult the painting is.

  • 24 colors offer a more streamlined palette with smooth color transitions
and a clear, approachable painting process.
  • 36 colors provide added depth and variation, while remaining clear and
    easy to follow.
  • 48 colors introduce greater color nuance and subtle transitions for a
    richer visual result.

If you’re unsure, many people enjoy starting with fewer colors and moving to a larger palette over time — but there’s no right or wrong choice. Each option is designed to be enjoyable at your own pace.

What is the difference between rolled canvas and stretched canvas?

A Rolled Canvas is shipped rolled and can be stretched or framed later. A Stretched Canvas arrives mounted on wooden stretcher bars and is ready to hang once completed. Both use the same high-quality canvas surface.

The painting experience

Do I need prior painting experience?

Not at all. Our kits are designed to be enjoyed at your own pace, whether you’re painting for the first time or returning to it after some time. The numbered canvas guides you gently through the process, without pressure or expectation.

How long does it take to complete a painting?

There’s no set timeline. Some people enjoy painting in short, quiet sessions over several days, while others prefer longer, immersive stretches. What matters most is the experience itself — not how quickly you finish.

What does "Choose Your Pace" mean?

"Choose Your Pace" describes the overall pace, focus, and level of immersion a piece offers — independent of the number of paints included.

If you’re familiar with traditional terms, you can think of these as roughly corresponding to beginner, intermediate, and advanced —but framed around the experience of painting, rather than skill level.

  • Calm pieces feel open and approachable, with clear sections and an easy flow that make them easy to settle into.
  • Focused pieces invite deeper attention, blending structure and detail for an engaging, steady painting experience.
  • Immersive pieces invite deeper focus, with finer areas and a more involved painting process for those who enjoy spending more time with a piece.

Each artwork is carefully assigned its experience level based on how it feels to paint, not simply on technical complexity.

Care instructions

How should I care for the paints while painting?

For best results, keep paint pots closed when not in use and alternate between colors during a session so no single pot stays open for too long. Acrylic paints are best used within six months and should be kept away from direct sunlight.

How should I display my finished painting?

Allow your painting to dry fully before framing or displaying. To preserve color and finish over time, we recommend keeping finished artwork away from direct sunlight and moisture.
