Painting Kit Care Guide
Painting Kit Care Guide
Simple steps for a smooth and enjoyable painting experience
Painting is meant to feel calm, intuitive, and deeply satisfying.
A few small care habits can make the process smoother — and help your materials last from the first section to the final detail.
Before You Begin
A simple setup makes all the difference.
Choose a comfortable, well-lit space where you can sit without rushing.
Keep a small cup of water nearby, along with a soft tissue or cloth.
There’s no need to prepare much beyond that — just a quiet moment and a place to begin.
While You Paint
Rinse your brush between colors
Gently dip your brush in water each time you change colors.
Avoid pressing too hard — a light swirl is enough to release the pigment.
After rinsing, lightly blot the brush on a soft tissue.
This helps maintain control and prevents colors from becoming diluted.
Keep paints fresh
Close each paint pot after use to prevent drying.
If a paint thickens slightly over time, a tiny drop of water can help restore its consistency.
Caring for Your Brushes
(This is the one detail that makes the biggest difference)
Well-cared-for brushes keep their shape, remain soft, and allow for precise, enjoyable painting.
During your session
- Rinse gently between colors
- Avoid letting paint sit on the brush for too long
- Do not leave brushes resting in water (this weakens the bristles and handle)
After rinsing, lightly dry the brush with a soft tissue before continuing.
At the end of your session
This step helps prevent brushes from becoming feathery, stiff, or difficult to control.
- Place a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid in your palm
- Using lukewarm water, gently swirl the brush against your palm
- Continue until all paint is fully removed
- Pay special attention to the base of the bristles, where paint can build up
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water
Once clean:
- Gently reshape the tip of the brush using your fingers
- Lay the brushes flat to air dry (avoid drying them upright while wet)
A few important notes
- Never let paint dry on the brush
- Avoid hot water, which can damage synthetic fibers
- Avoid scrubbing harshly — gentle motion preserves the brush shape
With proper care, your brushes will stay smooth, precise, and easy to work with throughout your painting.
If Something Feels Off
A few small adjustments can quickly fix common issues:
- Paint feels too thick → add a tiny drop of water
- Coverage isn’t even → allow the first layer to dry, then apply another
- Edges feel difficult → switch to a smaller brush and reduce excess water
There’s always a way forward — no need to panic.
After You Finish
Once your painting is complete, allow it to dry fully before handling.
From there, you can:
- Frame it
- Display it
- Or simply keep it as a quiet reminder of the time you spent creating it
A Final Note
There’s no perfect way to do this.
The process is meant to feel steady, absorbing, and your own — one section at a time.
